The Indian government has made changes to the finance bill 2020 which allows them to hike fuel prices.The government has amended the 2020 Finance Bill to get the power to increase the excise duty of petrol and diesel by Rs 8 per litre in the future. The amendment gives powers to the government to raise the special excise duty on petrol and diesel to a limit of Rs 18 per litre of petrol and 12 per litre of diesel respectively. The additional revenue thus generated can be utilised to meet unexpected expenses incurred during the coronavirus outbreak.
