The creator of the video used in making the claim says there is no political intent behind it.
What is the claim?
According to incorrect social media posts, President-elect Donald Trump's nomination of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as Secretary of Health has people on the political left protesting — by drinking bottles of seed oil.
Since Trump made his pick on November 14, 2024, the claim has been spread across X (example archived here), Instagram (example archived here), TikTok, Facebook (example archived here), and 4chan message boards (archived here).
Most of the posts include either a video or screenshots of a video showing a man wearing a grey sports cap and safety goggles, sitting on an upside-down bucket in a parking lot, drinking a cup of seed oil.
"Liberals are now CHUGGING seed oils to protest RFK Jr…," says one post on X (archived here) that has been viewed 2.7 million times.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is by many believed to be a controversial pick for Secretary of Health, as he is a vaccine denier and has spread misinformation.
Kennedy Jr. has made various claims criticizing seed oils in the past.
However, the man drinking seed oil in the online video is not protesting against the nomination. He has long made videos of himself eating and drinking various foods and beverages. We also could not find proof that the drinking of seed oil had become a wider trend after Kennedy Jr.'s nomination.
In fact
One of the videos posted online displayed a watermark pointing to the TikTok user IDGAF Foods. We found the seed oil video uploaded on November 17, 2024, on TikTok.
However, IDGAF Foods told Logically Facts that the video was not made as a protest or even a comment on Kennedy Jr.'s nomination.
"There is no political intent behind what I'm doing. I aim to bring awareness to issues around addiction and mental health," he said.
The video is hashtagged "#recovery" and "#wedorecover."
A recent GQ profile explains that IDGAF Foods is a recovering drug and alcohol addict. He states that his videos are a reminder to him and others that even the worst food is better than the drugs that he was addicted to.
He has been doing similar videos since July.
IDGAF Foods has since addressed the viral claim on social media channels after Logically Facts contacted him.
We could not find any evidence beyond this that drinking seed oil to protest the Kennedy Jr. nomination had become a trend.
The verdict
The TikTok user behind the video, referred to by posts claiming that people are protesting Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s nomination as Secretary of Health by drinking seed oils, says there's nothing political about his actions. He's been making similar videos since July. We could find no evidence of a wider trend of drinking seed oils in protest against the nomination. Therefore, we have marked this claim as false.
