The Verdict Unverifiable

Unfortunately, it is not possible to objectively verify this claim.A Youtube video uploaded by ANI News on 24 December 2019, shows Home Minister Amit Shah saying that the National Population Register (NPR) has nothing to do with the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and that the former is part of the Census. However, news published by Press Information Bureau on 26 November 2019 states the opposite. According to it, the NPR is the first step towards the creation of the National Register of Indian Citizens (NRIC) by verifying citizenship status. Moreover, news published by PTI on 11 October 2019, states that after completing the NPR, it will act as a base for preparing the National Register of Indian Citizens (NRIC), a pan-India version of Assam's National Register of Citizens (NRC). However, since the same government has made contradictory announcements, the veracity of the given claim cannot be objectively verified at the current time until further clarifications by the concerned authorities.
