The UK is the first European country to record more than 50,000 deaths due to COVID-19.As of November 13, the UK has recorded 50,928 deaths due to COVID-19—the highest death toll in Europe. On November 5, the government implemented new lockdown measures to curb COVID-19's spread. Non-essential shops, pubs, and restaurants remain closed. The UK has seen the world's fifth-highest death toll. Poorer areas and ethnic minorities have been disproportionately affected. The government's death toll only includes people who died within 28 days of testing positive for coronavirus, but there are two other ways of measuring COVID-19 deaths. The statistics compiled by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) state that the death toll is closer to 65,000. The COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to a lot of potentially dangerous misinformation.
