Carlos Antonio De Bourbon Montenegro and Marcos Raul Arevalo were arrested for seventeen counts of crimes related to voter fraud.On November 17, two men were charged with one count of conspiracy to commit voter fraud, eight counts of voter fraud, four counts of procuring and offering a false or forged instrument, and four misdemeanor counts of interference with a prompt transfer of a completed affidavit. Montenegro, a mayoral candidate of Hawthorne, was charged with additional counts, including conspiracy to commit voter fraud, voter fraud, and perjury. He is charged with 41 counts. The case was filed on November 12. Montenegro allegedly submitted more than 8,000 fraudulent voter registration applications between July and October 2020. If found guilty, he would be imprisoned for fifteen years and eight months and Arevalo for seven years. The case remains under investigation by the District Attorney’s Bureau of Investigation.
