New Zealand has moved to Alert Level 1 and lifted almost all of its COVID-19 restrictions after 17 days of no active cases of the virus.Jacinda Ardern, Prime Minister of New Zealand in her speech on June 8 said that after 26 days in Alert Level 2, the country is now in Alert Level 1 as no new cases have been reported for 17 days. She further added that the cabinet had agreed to move on to Level 1, to open the economy, and that social distancing is no longer required but is still encouraged. She also lifted the limit on gatherings for weddings, funerals, but the borders will remind closed to foreigners. New Zealand went into lockdown for the first time on March 25, and had set up a new four-stage alert system. The country had been in level four, where most businesses were shut, schools closed, and people told to stay at home. On June 8, they entered level 1.
