She further added that the cabinet had agreed to move on to Level 1, to open the economy, and that social distancing is no longer required but is still encouraged. She also lifted the limit on gatherings for weddings, funerals, but the borders will remind closed to foreigners. New Zealand went into lockdown for the first time on March 25, and had set up a new four-stage alert system. The country had been in level four, where most businesses were shut, schools closed, and people told to stay at home. On June 8, they entered level 1.
