Indian PM Narendra Modi's twitter account which is linked to his personal website was briefly hacked in the early hours of September 3, 2020.A group of hackers claiming to be 'John Wick' gained access to the twitter account of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They posted a series of tweets that have since been deleted. It is believed that the account was hacked by gaining access to the website linked to the compromised Twitter account. Twitter confirmed that it was aware of the hack on PM Modi's website hack and clarified that Twitter's security was not compromised. A person related to Twitter further confirmed that this was an isolated incident that was not related to the Jul 2020 hacks where accounts of Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and others were compromised. Reports by Hindustan Times claim that HT contacted one of the Hackers involved in the incident by using an email ID they left behind in one of the tweets. The hacker reportedly told them that the hack was meant to clear the 'John Wich' group's name from a prior incident where PayTM Mall was hacked. He told Hindustan Times that they were not involved in the PayTM Mall hack. The hacker also said that they had previously written to many Indian media outlets to inform about it but claimed that they did not receive any response. It supposedly prompted them to compromise the Indian PM's Account. It was also revealed that the hackers took gained access to the website of PM Modi and that they did not hack Twitter itself. The backdoor into the website gave them access to post the tweets.
