Delhi High Court ruled that retired officers of armed forces cannot get privileged treatment based on their ranks at hospitals and clinics under ECHS.The Anti Discrimination Core, a society of ex-servicemen, filed a petition on May 15, 2015, stating discrimination based on rank or cadre of retired jawans in medical services under Ex-servicemen Contributory Health Scheme(ECHS) polyclinics all over the country. On December 11, 2015, a Bench consisting of Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw ordered that the only solution for this issue could be creating awareness by imparting training to the doctors and staff of the military service. In its order, it also states that hospitals have to attend the patients on the appointment, first-come-first-served basis, or strictly going by rules. However, the bench refused to issue any directive to the doctors and other staff of the Ex-servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) polyclinics but forwarded the issues to the ECHS Managing Director and directed him to address the problems in the best possible manner.
