After multiple rounds of talks at the Major General level, China released 10 of the Indian soldiers they had captured from the Galwan valley. The Indian and Chinese military engaged in a brutal hand to hand combat resulting in the death of around 20 Indian soldiers and an unspecific number of Chinese soldiers. The skirmish occurred at the patrol post 14 of the Galwan valley at the LAC (Line of Actual Control) on the night of June 15 and went into the early hours of June 16, 2020. It is currently not known whether the PLA (People's Liberation Army of China) has captured any more Indian soldiers, or if India has captured any PLA soldiers. On June 18, the media reported that ten Indian soldiers, including two Majors and two Captains, were released from the Chinese custody after successful rounds of talks at the Major General level. The media refrained from reporting the incident as they had decided not to report the incident until the soldiers safely returned from PLA's detention. A detailed medical examination was carried out on the soldiers that were returned by the PLA, and it was reported that none of them had sustained significant injuries. There were no visual signs of mistreatment. Indian soldiers were last captured by the PLA in 1962 when the Chinese took control of the Aksai Chin region of Ladakh by force. Reports quoting unnamed sources said that the Indian Army debriefed 10 of its soldiers who were detained by the Chinese after their release. Meanwhile, Indian minister Gen. V K Singh was quoted as saying in an interview that India too returned Chinese men who had come to India's side.
