The COVID-19 has affected the wellbeing of staff and sustainability of local care providers.
The COVID-19 has affected the wellbeing of staff and sustainability of local care providers.Social care covers the provision of support and personal care to help people's needs arising from illness, disability, old age, or other issues such as poverty. COVID-19 has introduced significant additional costs in the provision of care. These costs include the provision of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), testing, increased cleaning, and less flexibility in workforce deployment. The social care system in the U.K was already under strain before the impact of COVID-19. Although short term funding is now available from the government to offset some of the additional costs, many care providers remain under financial pressure. It has been compounded by falling occupancy levels in care homes from excess deaths, not being able to admit new admissions, and reduced demand for residential care. . The COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to a lot of potentially dangerous misinformation.
