Barr told federal prosecutors to examine allegations of voting irregularities in the 2020 elections.
Barr told federal prosecutors to examine allegations of voting irregularities in the 2020 elections. On November 9, Attorney General William Barr authorized federal prosecutors to open investigations into voter fraud. In Barr's two-page memo to prosecutors, which is available to view online, the attorney said "I authorize you to pursue substantial allegations of voting and vote tabulation irregularities prior to the certification of elections in your jurisdictions". He added that "it is imperative that credible allegations be addressed in a timely and effective manner". There has been no evidence of voter fraud, widespread or otherwise. Barr's decision, which has been criticized by many officials from the Department of Justice, addresses President Donald Trump's allegations about the election being rigged. Indeed, Trump has refused to admit defeat in the elections, despite President-elect Joe Biden winning the majority of votes in a decisive win.
