A report published by the Department of Tourism, Nepal in 2018 substantiates the number of summiteers who climbed the Mount Everest.According to a report titled 'Mountaineering in Nepal, Facts and Figures' published in June 2018 by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Nepal, New Zealander Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay were the first people to scale Mount Everest in 1953. Since then, 5304 climbers have scaled the peak of Mount Everest, earth's highest mountain above sea level.
