Numerous terrorists attacks have been thwarted by the MI5 and police in the last three years, though the exact number is unknown. Speaking in response to the stabbings in Reading park, Security Minister James Brokenshire said that twenty-five attacks have been foiled in the UK, since the terrorist attack in Westminster in 2017. A joint message by the MI5 and Police from 2019 states that 'numerous plots have been thwarted.' An independent assessment report on MI5 and police internal reviews, by David Anderson, was released by the government in 2017. According to the report, 20 terrorist plots were thwarted between 2013 and 2017, seven of them since the Westminster attack in March 2017. Publicly available information from 2017 does not give exact numbers of plots thwarted in the UK.
