Fact-Check

The Verdict False

This video is from a 2022 press conference held by Pelosi after Roe v. Wade was overturned by the United States Supreme Court.

What is the claim?

A video of Democrat Nancy Pelosi addressing a press conference, accompanied by a claim that she was speaking after Donald Trump’s win in the recently concluded U.S. presidential election, is circulating online. In the four-second viral clip posted on November 6, a day after the elections, Pelosi is heard saying, “No point in saying good morning because it certainly is not one.”

Ian Miles Cheong, a right-wing blogger known for disseminating misinformation on social media, wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on November 6, "Nancy Pelosi isn’t very happy this morning."

Another X user shared the video with the caption, "Communist Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi this morning after Donald Trump's victory: 'There is no point in saying good morning because it certainly isn’t a good morning.' Pelosi’s eyes looked swollen from crying over Donald Trump’s victory." (Translated from Spanish using Google Translate). Archived versions of such posts can be found here, here, here, and here.

However, we found that the video is from June 2022, when Pelosi delivered a speech after Roe v. Wade was overturned.

What are the facts?

Upon conducting a search using relevant keywords, we found an MSNBC video (archived here) from June 24, 2022, featuring Nancy Pelosi with the title, “Pelosi: Supreme Court Overturning Roe v. Wade Is ‘Outrageous And Heart-Wrenching.’” In this video, Pelosi can be heard making the same remarks as in the viral clip, starting with, “There's no point in saying good morning because it certainly is not one.” She added, "This morning, the radical Supreme Court is eviscerating Americans' rights and endangering their health and safety. But the Congress will continue to act to overcome this extremism and protect the American people."

Several major media outlets such as The Independent, The Washington Post, ABC News, and The Telegraph (archived here, here, and here) also published the same video featuring Pelosi in June 2022. The Democrat was addressing a press conference following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, the landmark ruling that established the constitutional right to abortion in the U.S. in 1973.

The full transcript of her press conference is also available on her website, confirming that the viral video of Pelosi is unrelated to the 2024 presidential election results or her reaction to Trump’s victory.

On November 6, Trump won the 2024 U.S. presidential election against Democratic Presidential candidate and U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris after winning several crucial states. In January 2025, Trump will become the 47th President of the U.S.

The verdict

The viral clip does not show Democrat Nancy Pelosi reacting to Donald Trump's election win. The video actually shows Pelosi addressing a press conference after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022.
