Fact-Check

The Verdict False

The claim originated from a satirical website, and there is no credible evidence to support it.

A viral social media post (archived here) falsely claims that Taylor Swift's Eras Tour has been severely affected by her political stance. The post states, "Taylor Swift's Eras Tour struggles with only 2,000 ticket sales after endorsement backlash."

This refers to Swift's Instagram post from September 11, 2024, where she voiced her support for Kamala Harris in the upcoming U.S. presidential election, saying, "I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in 2024."

However, there is no evidence that Taylor Swift's tour schedules were impacted or altered due to her political endorsement.

In fact

Looking into the source of this claim led us to Esspots, a website that describes itself as "your one-stop destination for satirical news and commentary about the United States."

Esspots published an article titled Taylor Swift Cancels Eras Tour Dates After Endorsement Backlash: 'Only 2,300 Tickets Sold' was published on September 14, 2024, just three days after Swift's endorsement of Kamala Harris. Notably, the tags under the headline and publication date clearly state "satire."

No reputable media outlets have reported Swift canceling tour dates following her endorsement of Harris. Additionally, no such claims were made on Swift's social media accounts. Her tour schedules also do not show any cancellations.

Ticketmaster reports that Taylor Swift's upcoming Eras Tour shows in the U.S. and Canada are selling out rapidly, with many concerts already fully booked. The overwhelming demand has left numerous fans on waitlists, highlighting the tour's immense popularity.

The singer did cancel some Eras Tour shows in Austria in August, but only after authorities uncovered a planned terrorist attack near her Vienna venue.

The verdict

Taylor Swift did not cancel any Eras Tour shows following her endorsement of Kamala Harris. The claim originates from a satirical article on the website Esspots, which clearly labels the piece as satire.

No reputable media outlets have reported any cancellations due to political backlash, and there is no evidence supporting this claim. Swift's tour continues to be a major success, with sold-out shows across venues. Therefore, we have marked the claim as false.
