Some of Neil Young's songs are available on Spotify because they are from movie soundtracks. All Neil Young's albums and singles have been removed. On January 26, singer Neil Young announced that he wanted his songs taken down from Spotify. He said this was because of the COVID-19 misinformation on the platform. "Spotify has recently become a very damaging force via its public misinformation and lies about COVID," he explained, adding that the result was life-threatening to the music-loving public and that lies were being sold for money. Now some weeks later, social media posts have been claiming Young's music is "back" on Spotify. Some posts feature images of a Spotify playlist with Neil Young's songs; some users have mocked the singer for not "keeping his word." However, it is misleading to say that Neil Young's music is back on Spotify. As Reuters has reported, only "movie soundtracks or other events that featured Young but released by other entities" exist on Spotify. All Neil Young's singles and albums have been removed. Neil Young's Spotify page only shows his features, singles, and extended plays (EPs). The Neil Young Archives website lists all his songs from 1963 under the timeline section. On January 28, Neil Young said, "When I left Spotify, I felt better." He clarified that his songs are available on Amazon. Apple Music and the music-streaming service Qobuz also feature his songs. Spotify hasn't indicated that Neil Young is "back" on Spotify.
