Misleading: More than 4,000 fully vaccinated people have been hospitalized or died with COVID-19 in the U.S.

However, 1,240 (28 percent) of the 4,427 hospitalized and 223 (25 percent) of 879 fatal cases, respectively, were asymptomatic or non-COVID-19. CDC also specifies that the reports they received were likely to underestimate all COVID-19 infections among fully vaccinated people. Because national surveillance relies on passive and voluntary reporting, data may not be complete or representative. As of April 30, when 101 million people were vaccinated, a 10,262 breakthrough illness was reported. According to NBC Boston, health experts advise people vaccinated to get tested for COVID-19, even if they have only minor symptoms, to keep track of the virus and any mutations and avoid future transmission. It also reports that the CDC ceased counting breakthrough infections in May 2021. Instead, federal health officials track only vaccinated individuals who end up in the hospital or die from COVID-19. The American Society of Microbiology explains that breakthrough infections can arise for various reasons, including an inadequate or inefficient immune response to vaccination, decreasing immunity over time, or virus evolution. According to evidence, specific mutations appear to be more prevalent in breakthrough SARS-CoV-2 infections. There might be deletion in the "NTD-antigenic supersite," which was of particular interest, and further investigation was required. The CDC advises that everyone over the age of 12 get a COVID-19 vaccine as soon as feasible because it is effective, and vaccine breakthrough has been recorded in only a tiny percentage of people.
