The Reserve Bank of India has confirmed that there are only 11 days of holidays for Indian banks in May 2022, including weekends.A rumor has been circulating via the Bihar Breaking News website that banks in India will be closed for 13 days in May 2022. However, this rumor is misleading, as The Bihar Breaking News report has added all state bank holidays to the list for the entire country. According to The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), including weekends, banks will be closed for 11 days. Many holidays are region-specific, and they may differ from one state to another. The RBI has published a list of public holidays on its website, which states banks will be closed on major public holidays during the month of May 2022. These include May Day (May 1, Sunday), Ramjan-Eid (Eid-UI-Fitra) (May 2), Bhagvan Shree Parshuram Jayanti/Ramjan-Eid (Eid-UI-Fitra)/Basava Jayanti/Akshaya Tritiya (May 3), and Buddha Purnima (May 16). It also includes 5 Sundays: May 1, May 8, May 15, May 22, May 29, and the second Saturday (May 14) and fourth Saturday (May 28). It also marks May 9 as the Birthday of Rabindranath Tagore, which is celebrated mainly in Kolkata. According to the Hindustan Times, under the Negotiable Instruments Act, Real Time Gross Settlement Holiday, and Banks' Closing of Accounts, the RBI divides the holidays into national and regional categories. Many holidays are region-specific, and they might differ from state to state and bank to bank. As a result, consumers who have critical bank-related needs in May 2022 should double-check the list before visiting the bank. According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), there are 11 days of holidays, not 13 days, so this claim is misleading.
