While Sanjay Singh did say Arvind Kejriwal's weight went down from "70 kg to 81.5 kg," he corrected himself immediately.
What is the claim?
Social media users have shared a short clip of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) spokesperson Sanjay Singh with a claim that he said Delhi Chief Minister and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, who is currently in Tihar jail, lost 8.5 kilograms, and went from 70 kg to 81.5 kg.
In the video, the party spokesperson addresses a press conference in Hindi and says, “When Arvind Kejriwal was arrested on March 21, his weight was 70 kg. Today, his weight has dropped by 8.5 kg to 81.5 kg.”

A user on X (formerly Twitter) shared the 23-second video with the caption: “70-8.5 = 81.5. Maths knowledge of AAP Party leaders.” The post garnered over 102,000 views. The archived versions of this post and others can be found here, here, and here.
However, we found that while Singh does make the miscalculation, he immediately corrects himself, which has not been included in the viral video.
What we found
A reverse image and keyword search led us to this video (archived here) uploaded by The Free Press Journal on July 13. At 2:03 in the video, Singh says, “And as of today his weight has dropped by 8.5 kg to 81.5…” However, we can hear him immediately correct himself and say, “61.5 kg. His weight has dropped from 70 kg to 61.5 kg, he has lost around 8.5 kg since March 21.”
We also found the longer version of the press conference video uploaded to AAP’s X account (archived here), where Singh can be heard correcting himself at the 1:56 mark.
Articles filed by media outlets LiveMint and Amar Ujala also report that the AAP spokesperson said the 8.5 kg weight loss led to Kejriwal’s weight dropping to 61.5 kg.
Singh, in the press conference held on July 13, spoke about Kejriwal’s health in Delhi’s Tihar jail. The chief minister has been in jail since April 1, since his arrest by the Excise Department on March 21 in connection with a money laundering linked to Delhi's excise policy. Though he was granted bail in the Enforcement Directorate case, he remains in jail as the Central Bureau of Investigation had also officially arrested him in the same case.
In the press conference, Singh used reports by the jail’s superintendent to share updates about the chief minister’s health and claimed that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Delhi Lieutenant Governor are “playing with the life of Arvind Kejriwal and conspiring to kill him in jail.” The Delhi chief minister’s health in jail has been a point of contention between the ruling central and Delhi government since his imprisonment in April.
The verdict
A clipped video of AAP leader Sanjay Singh has been shared to claim that he miscalculated Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s weight loss in jail. A longer video shows him correcting his calculation immediately.
