Fact-Check

The Verdict False

Official data and credible institutions confirm that Joe Biden won 81 million votes in the 2020 election, disproving the renewed voter fraud claims.

The context

Donald Trump's victory in the 2024 U.S. presidential election has reignited claims of fraud in the 2020 election.

Recently, Dinesh D'Souza, a right-wing political commentator and author of 2000 Mules — a debunked conspiracy movie alleging the 2020 election was stolen — said in a post (archived here) on X: "Does anyone really believe Biden got 80 million in 2020? Where did those 20 million Democratic voters go? The truth is, they never existed." The tweet garnered more than four million views.

Similar claims have spread to Threads, where a user in a post (archived here) said, "Biden didn't win 81M votes. Trump was right, he won then, too."

However, Joe Biden won the 2020 U.S. presidential election with more than 81 million votes, and credible institutions have repeatedly disproven allegations of widespread voter fraud.

What we found

Despite Donald Trump's extensive efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election results, no credible evidence of widespread election fraud has been found.

Numerous governmental institutions dedicated to election integrity and security have rejected Trump's claims of a stolen election and reaffirmed the accuracy and fairness of the results.

For example, on November 12, 2020, America's Cyber Defense Agency (CISA) released a statement saying, "There is no evidence that any voting system deleted or lost votes, changed votes, or was in any way compromised." They added, "The November 3 election was the most secure in American history."

Additionally, official data affirms that Joe Biden did indeed win 81,283,501 votes in the 2020 election. This figure is documented in the Federal Election Commission's certified results of the 2020 federal elections.

Claims of voter fraud have resurfaced following the 2024 election. Logically Facts recently debunked the 20 million voters claim made in the post. The number is outdated and was taken as counting continued.

The verdict

The claim that Joe Biden did not win 81 million votes in the 2020 U.S. presidential election is false. Credible institutions and official data have repeatedly debunked allegations of voter fraud.
