The video shared on Twitter shows a demonstration in Amsterdam, not in Iran. The demonstration was in solidarity with the protests in Iran.
Context
A video shared by Twitter user @Partisangirl showing a topless woman at an Iranian demonstration has gained over 20,000 likes and 4,000 retweets. The original video comes from @RadioZamaneh. @Partisangirl's tweet reads: "The ‘Iranians’ have gone full “femen” activism now. So it’s not about personal liberty but full blown neo-liberal western degeneracy."
The tweet shows distaste for the activism on display, presenting it as happening in Iran, and has been retweeted and shared by others with similar sentiments.
In fact
The video is of a demonstration in Amsterdam and has been misattributed as a protest from Iran. @ZamanehRadio, the English Language version of @RadioZamaneh, also labels the video as a demonstration by the artist Niloofar Fouladi in Amsterdam, showing solidarity with the protests in Iran. Similarly, we found footage of the general demonstration on YouTube and Google, all labeled as being from Amsterdam, such as a video by the Persian Dutch Network which shows a different angle of the demonstration.
@Partisangirl's tweet does not clarify that the demonstration is in Amsterdam, simply stating that it's Iranian activism. This is misleading as it allows for the interpretation that the demonstration is part of the protests in Iran, and uses this to push skepticism against the Iranian protests, framing them as supporting immoral values.
The verdict
The video does not show a protest or instance of activism in Iran; instead, the video is of a demonstration in Amsterdam to show solidarity with the protests in Iran. The video has been misattributed and therefore it has been marked as false.
