False: Uttar Pradesh's former IPS officer Amitabh Thakur was arrested without a warrant.

An FIR was filed against Amitabh Thakur for abetment of suicide based on a report by the Special Investigation Team.On August 28, Amitabh Thakur, a former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, was arrested by Uttar Pradesh Police, The Indian Express reported. Police charged Thakur with aiding a suicide of a rape victim and her boyfriend, who set themselves on fire outside the Supreme Court. The victim was found dead on August 24 in a Delhi hospital after she accused Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Lok Sabha MP Atul Rai of raping her at his Varanasi home in 2018. The victim claimed that Thakur helped Rai in harassing and threatening her, forcing her to withdraw her case. On August 18, the Uttar Pradesh government formed a two-member probe panel, led by DGP Raj Kumar Vishwakarma and Additional DG Neera Rawat, to investigate the woman's allegations. On August 27, the panel delivered its report to the state government. The Lucknow police filed an FIR against Thakur and Rai at the Hazratganj police station based on a complaint filed by sub-inspector Daya Shankar Dwivedi, The Indian Express reported. Thakur refused to go with the police team until he was given a copy of the FIR and was heard claiming that police were acting illegally. According to India Today, Thakur and Rai were charged with abetment of suicide based on the Special Investigation Team's report to investigate all aspects of the rape charges against the BSP MP and subsequent suicide bids. Indian Penal Code Sections 120B, 167, 195A, 218 306, 306, 504, and 506 were cited in the FIR. Thakur was also brought before the Lucknow Court, which sentenced him to judicial custody in jail until September 9, Live Law reported. The video of Thakur being arrested has been shared online with multiple narratives. However, he was not arrested without a warrant.
