A tweet by Hoshiarpur Police confirms that news published about Muslim men complaining about mistreatment is fake. The Founding Editor of The Wire, Siddharth had posted an article on Twitter which stated that a group of Muslims families belonging to the villages in the Talwara block of Hoshiarpur district, had hidden in the Swan riverbed after they were harassed and humiliating by the surrounding villagers since the Tablighi Jamaat incident of Delhi. Surendra Lamba, IPS responded to the news on his twitter handle and told Siddharth that he should avoid posting news which is not authentic and create panic among the people. He also urged him to more responsible at the times of such crisis. Also, he tagged a video by Hoshiarpur Police which said that Gujjars are good, and told not to spread fake news. In the video, a young man named Saraj Din is seen telling the police that they are not in trouble. He was the same person cited in the story by 'The Wire' which said he was subjected to abuse, violence and compelled to stay hungry on the river banks.
