The New York Times public relations team has stated the news organization has never praised Narendra Modi in such a manner.Social media posts circulated in September 2021 included a photo of what seemed to be the front page of The New York Times. The headlines and report praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which stated that he was the "Last, Best Hope of Earth." The article is supposed to be from September 26, 2021. However, The New York Times did not publish any headlines or articles related to the post. On September 26, 2021, the actual front page included articles about death inquires, FBI informers, and many other reports. None of them involved Modi. Multiple articles with the same image showed up on a reverse image search of the viral post. The original version of Modi's photograph was first uploaded on the Government of India's Press Information Bureau (PIB) website. The photo was taken on March 12, 2021, when he signed the visitor's book at Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The New York Times Communications, via a tweet on September 29, 2021, clarified that the image shared in the post is completely fabricated.
