False: Shell is eliminating 9,000 jobs because of President Joe Biden.

In September, before Biden was elected, energy supplier Shell revealed that the company would slash up to 9,000 jobs globally.Despite the oil company announcing job losses before the 2020 presidential election, Facebook users have posted an image that inaccurately alleges that Shell is laying off thousands of employees because of President Joe Biden and his government. As BBC News reported, Shell announced its plans to slash 7,000 to 9,000 jobs at the end of September 2020. In an interview published on the firm's website on September 30, 2020, Ben van Beurden, CEO of Shell, said that the termination would occur before the end of 2022. Van Beurden said, "since the specifics are still being sorted out, we do not have a precise figure, and we have never had an aim to eliminate a set number of workers. But we may assume that we can eliminate between 7,000 and 9,000 jobs by the end of 2022 due to the efficiencies we plan to achieve." He added this includes around 1,500 persons who have already committed to voluntary attrition this year but excludes anyone who may quit Shell because of divestments. Van Beurden described the job-cutting program as "an extremely tough process." He said, "It is very painful to know that you will end up saying goodbye to quite a few good people, yet we do this because we have to because it's the best thing to do with the company's future."
