According to reports, the Department of Justice and a Spokesperson for former president Obama have categorically denied this claim.A Los Angeles Times article claims that during the Obama administration, the FBI launched a counterintelligence probe into whether associates of Donald Trump's campaign collaborated with Russia to influence the election. The article adds that a Department of Justice report stated that the FBI had legal and factual justification to conduct the investigation. The article also claims that the report found no evidence that the probe was influenced by political bias. Additionally, a Guardian article confirms that the intelligence investigation launched to assess the ties between the Trump campaign and Russia began during the Obama administration; however, the article also mentions that this investigation continued well into Trump’s own administration. Finally, a Politifact report concludes that there is no evidence that former President Obama himself ordered wiretapping to spy on Donald Trump during the election.
