Fact-Check

The Verdict False

The claim that dual U.S.-Israel citizens hold all senior cabinet positions in the Biden administration, except the Secretary of Defense, is false.

Context

A claim is circulating on social media that every senior-level cabinet position in the Biden administration is held by U.S. citizens with dual Israeli nationality, except for the Secretary of Defense.

Alongside the image with the claim shared on Facebook (archived here), the user wrote, “Make no mistake - Israel owns and controls US politics!”

Additionally, the post claimed that the U.S. was referred to as a "Zionist Occupied Government" (ZOG) in the 1980s and 1990s.

In fact

Among the 26 senior-level cabinet positions in Biden’s administration, only 10 are currently filled by Jewish people. One more position was filled by a Jewish person, Wendy Sherman, who served as the Deputy Secretary of State until her retirement on July 28, 2023. This position is no longer held by a Jewish person following her resignation.

To hold dual citizenship with Israel, an individual must either be born in Israel or have undergone a naturalization process under Israeli law. This process typically requires applicants to renounce their previous citizenship, reside in Israel for a specified period, demonstrate stable income, and possess proficiency in Hebrew.

None of the senior-level cabinet members in the Biden administration were born in Israel, making it highly improbable that they hold dual citizenship with Israel.

It is important to note that the U.S. does not have a public registry for individuals with dual citizenship. This absence of a centralized database makes it challenging to verify dual citizenship without explicit confirmation from individuals or public records.

Logically Facts has contacted the U.S. government for official confirmation of the cabinet members’ dual citizenship status but has not received a response.

While the Israeli Law of Return grants every Jew the right to immigrate to Israel and obtain citizenship, this is not granted automatically. Individuals must express their desire to settle in Israel and formally apply for this visa.

The term ZOG was used in the 1980s and 1990s by white supremacists and neo-Nazi groups to promote antisemitic ideologies. It appeared in propaganda and literature circulated by these groups to incite fear and hatred towards Jews.

However, the term was never used by mainstream or reputable sources but remained confined to the rhetoric of hate groups and conspiracy theorists.

The Aryan Nations, a prominent neo-Nazi group during that era, published an "Aryan Declaration of Independence" in 1996, which heavily featured the term ZOG. This document accused the so-called ZOG of numerous conspiracies against white people, including undermining the constitutional government, controlling the Federal Reserve, and promoting multiculturalism to dilute white racial purity.

The 1970s and 1980s were periods of significant economic and political changes in the United States, including the aftermath of the Vietnam War, the Watergate scandal, and economic recessions. Far-right groups exploited these uncertainties to promote conspiracy theories, blaming Jews for the nation's problems and claiming that they were secretly controlling the government and other major institutions.

Verdict:

The claim that U.S. citizens with dual citizenship with Israel hold every senior-level cabinet position in the Biden administration, except for the Secretary of Defense, is false. Furthermore, the term ZOG was used in the 1980s and 1990s by extremist groups, not by credible or mainstream sources.
