Fact-Check

The Verdict False

The claim emerges from a website called The People’s Voice, which is known to spread misinformation and has been denied by the WEF.

What is the claim?

Users on social media have shared a screenshot of an article by The People's Voice (TPV) claiming the World Economic Forum (WEF) has signed a treaty to classify pedophiles as a legally protected minority.

The article is headlined "LGBTQ+ Leaders Sign WEF Treaty to Accept Pedophiles as 'Legally Protected Minority.'" The screenshot has been shared with captions such as, "Now ya taking the P***, PEADOPHILES BEING ALLOWED TO GET AWAY WITH THIS (sic)." An archived version of the article can be viewed here, and posts making the same claim can be accessed here, here, and here.

A video (archived here) shared on X (formerly Twitter) by The People's Voice founder, Sean Adl-Tabatabai, with the same claim and content as the article, has gone viral, with over 907,000 views and over 7,000 reshares.

However, this claim is false, and the WEF has not proposed any such treaty.

What we found

TPV has a history of spreading misinformation. The article falsely states that LGTBQ+ leaders, through the WEF treaty, are accepting pedophiles as a protected minority, have deemed criticizing pedophiles as hate speech and that funding is supposedly being directed to support pedophilia advocacy groups.

However, the claim does not cite official WEF documents, links, or other credible news sources. The article and Sean's video also do not refer to a treaty except in the headline.

The TPV article only links back to two of its own articles to support this claim — one from May 2024 that claims George Soros (who has no link with the WEF) supposedly funded stories around pedophilia, and the other from April 2024 that claims that the Canadian government gave over $100 million to a "Pro-Pedophilia Movement" — both of which are unsubstantiated.

Logically Facts did not come across any statement, press release, or article about such a treaty or promoting pedophilia on the official website of the WEF. The TPV article also features a supposed post from the WEF's account on X that says, "Denying pedophiles their right to a sexual orientation is hateful." However, the screenshot does not show the date or timestamp, nor is there any record of such a post on the WEF's official X account.

Logically Facts contacted Yann Zopf, the Head of Media and Member of the WEF Executive Committee, who told us, "These claims are completely made up. The World Economic Forum has never made any statement of this kind."

Logically Facts debunked a similar claim by The People's Voice in 2023 about the WEF's supposed attempt to promote pedophilia. The World Economic Forum has been at the center of such conspiracy claims by the TPV and other platforms.

The verdict

There is no evidence to prove that a WEF treaty has been signed by LGBTQ+ leaders to accept pedophiles as a legally protected minority, and the claim has been shared by an outlet known to spread misinformation. Therefore, we have marked this claim as false.
