Fact-Check

The Verdict False

This claim is without evidence and was made by a website known for spreading conspiracy theories about the World Economic Forum.

Context

An article on the website The People's Voice (archived here) claims the World Economic Forum (WEF), the non-governmental organization for public-private cooperation best known for its annual Davos summit, is calling for a "controlled demolition" of the global food system.

According to the article, this "demolition" is part of a major "reinvention" of how humans consume food, including banning meat consumption and traditional farming.

A screenshot of the article's headline has since spread across social media platforms, with one X post amassing over 724,000 views within less than 24 hours.

In fact

The People's Voice article claims the WEF has outlined its demolition plans in a "disturbing" article titled "Feeding the future: why Renovation and Reinvention are key to saving our food system." While this article does exist (and can be found here), it does not say anything about demolishing the global food system.

The WEF's article discusses the need for a sustainable transition in the global food system to tackle the challenges of climate change and future food demand. This includes improving the food value chain by, for example, switching packaging from plastic to recycled materials or adding fibers to snacks. It would also mean doing a "radical overhaul" over how food is produced, distributed, and consumed – from introducing animal-free protein sources to promoting fresh food markets and farm-to-fork models. The phrase "controlled demolition" does not appear, nor does the article argue for a ban on meat consumption and farming.

A possible explanation for this could be that the WEF has changed its wording. However, using the internet library Wayback Machine, Logically Facts found a saved screenshot of the article from the same day it was published. It did not feature the phrase "controlled demolition."

The People's Voice, previously known as NewsPunch, is notorious for publishing false stories and conspiracy theories, many of which have been about the WEF. Previously, it has alleged that the WEF is planning on seizing governmental control over nations, forcing humans to dress in uniforms, implanting Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) under their skin, and banning them from conceiving children naturally – all of which have turned out to be conspiracy theories.

The verdict

A well-known conspiracy theory website published the article and provided no supporting evidence for its claim. Therefore, we have rated it as false.
