Fact-Check

The Verdict False

A fabricated news report was shared to falsely claim that the World Economic Forum has banned the natural process of conception.

Context

A news report on social media claims that the World Economic Forum (WEF) has banned the natural conception of babies. The report, published by The People's Voice on June 8, 2023, carries the headline: "WEF Bans Natural Conception: All Babies Must Be Lab-Grown by 2030." Several users shared the report on Twitter and Facebook, claiming the same. One such user shared the report on Twitter and wrote, "WEF Bans Natural Conception: All Babies Must Be Lab-Grown by 2030 - The People's Voice. So Klaus and chums want zee master race ya? Similarities abound to another who wanted the same. The real fascists are showing their hand. #WEF #Eugenics" The tweet has gained over 177,000 views and 1852 likes. Many users also shared a screenshot of the viral news report.

However, the claim is false. The WEF has not implemented any ban on the natural conception of babies.

In Fact

There is no evidence that the World Economic Forum has banned the natural process of conception or announced that all babies must be lab-grown by 2030. The viral article has been shared by "The People's Voice," previously known as NewsPunch, infamous for spreading misleading reports and publishing unverified information. Logically Facts has previously debunked many of its claims.

We reviewed the viral article, which notes that the WEF stated, "Humanity will be better equipped to deal with the challenges of the future if unborn children undergo gene editing to ensure they are free of diseases and disabilities, including psychological traits which the elite disapprove of." However, we could not find any reports that mention the WEF making such a statement. No reference links or sources have been provided to support the statements. Furthermore, the article says this is part of the WEF's "satanic agenda," a conspiracy theory lacking evidence.

Yann Zopf, a WEF spokesperson, refuted the claim and stated that the forum didn't implement any such ban on the natural conception of babies. In response to Logically Facts, Zopf wrote, "The World Economic Forum never called for banning natural conception. These are false claims to discredit the important work that the World Economic Forum does on serious global challenges."

The WEF was founded in 1971 by German economist Klaus Schwab to facilitate collaboration between government and business leaders in finding solutions to global issues. According to the WEF website, "The Forum engages the foremost political, business, cultural and other leaders of society to shape global, regional and industry agendas." A non-governmental organization, while the WEF can shape policy, it has no power to make decisions and mandate governments to take steps such as "banning natural conception."

Further, we couldn't find any announcements regarding genetically produced babies, banning natural conception on the WEF's website, or news reports about such developments.

Over the last few years, conspiracy theories and misinformation about WEF have repeatedly appeared on social media. Logically Facts has debunked many of these claims and published a round-up on narratives targeting the organization.

The Verdict

The World Economic Forum has neither banned the natural conception of babies nor stated that all babies must be lab-grown by 2030. A fabricated news report was shared to make false claims. Therefore, we have marked this claim as false.
