Context

On December 25, 2023, an X account shared a post with a video claiming that it shows the Yemeni army targeting Zionist, Israeli vessels with missiles in the Red Sea. The post has garnered over 34,000 views and 3,000 thousand likes. Multiple accounts on X and Facebook also shared the video from Türkiye.

However, the video actually shows a missile test in Iran in 2020.

In fact

This video was shared in Türkiye with the caption, "The moment when one of the Zionist ships was targeted by the heroes of the Yemeni army in the Red Sea."

The alleged Yemeni army and various groups in the country have been making statements of support for Palestine since the beginning of the attacks in Gaza. The Yemen-based Houthi group announced that they targeted a commercial ship in the Red Sea with a rocket, as stated in this claim, and that they also attacked Israeli military points with drones.

A Google reverse image search reveals that the video was originally published in 2020. A detailed look at the relevant content containing the video shows that the video comes from a missile test carried out in Iran in June 2020.

Apart from the scene of the missile leaving the range in the video, another scene shows the target being hit. When these scenes are compared, it is clear that the viral video comes from the missile test and exercise carried out in Iran in 2020.

According to Caspian News, the military exercise was named "Brave Martyrs of Ramadan." The missiles, placed at ranges in the Indian Ocean and the north of the Arabian Sea, hit their targets simultaneously.

Logically Facts has published several fact-checks about the Houthis and the attacks on vessels in the Red Sea.

The verdict

The images in this video, where missiles are loaded and fired, and ships at sea are hit, come from a missile test carried out in Iran in 2020. The claim that the video shows the Yemeni army targeting Zionist Israeli vessels in the Red Sea with missiles is not true. Therefore, we have marked this claim as false.
