Fact-Check

The Verdict False

The video is fake and Peppi Azzopardi does not support Norman Lowell in the MEP elections.

Context

In a video circulating on TikTok, Peppi Azzopardi, a popular Maltese television program host and public figure, appears to "agree" with the far-right MEP election candidate Norman Lowell. The video took a snippet from an interview with Jon Mallia during his podcast, in which he led the polar opposite discussion, questioning people's reasoning about whether they support Norman Lowell.

However, the video uses clips taken out of context, and Azzopardi has denied supporting Lowell.

In fact

Peppi Azzopardi released a public statement describing how this video could not be further from reality, as the original and complete video was from an interview in which he explained how individuals could be wrong in supporting Lowell in his efforts to be elected. He makes a clear statement by saying he could not agree with someone who "supports Hitler's leadership."

The advert itself was broadcast on TVM, Malta's national television channel, leading viewers and Azzopardi himself to express their distrust in the Broadcasting Authority for allowing the release of this fake video and question the company's credibility and stance in the elections.

The verdict

The video is comprised of unrelated and out-of-context clips. Azzopardi has stated he does not support Norman Lowell in the MEP elections. Therefore, we have marked this claim as false.
