BMC clarified that it has not released any new lockdown guidelines over the COVID-19 outbreak. The state government's guidelines will remain in place. A post circulating on social media claiming that BMC issued new lockdown guidelines effective from May 1. It also claims that stationery shops would remain open on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9 am to 3 pm. From Monday to Thursday, shoes & garments shops would stay open from 9 am to 3 pm, and general stores can function on alternate days from Monday to Friday from 9 am to 3 pm. The BMC clarified that it is fake. Though Mumbai's COVID-19 cases have been declining, the strict rules of state-imposed lockdown until May 15, 2021, are applicable in the city. On April 30, 2021, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said an image with a fake message was viral on social media, stating that new COVID-19 guidelines applicable from May 1. The BMC clarified there is no relaxation to some industries as the message states and requested citizens not to believe such rumors and avoid forwarding such fake messages. Mumbai Mirror reports that BMC said, "All lockdown guidelines issued by the state government will remain in effect." The Free Press Journal reports that civic officials had noticed that on April 29, Mumbai city had recorded less than 5000 cases for the fifth consecutive day. The recovery rate increased to 88%, and its overall growth rate is 0.86. The decline in cases is due to the lockdown practices in the state.
