Fact-Check

The Verdict False

Megan Fox used X for just a week in 2013 before publicly announcing she had deleted her account, a move that was reported in the news at that time.

What's the claim?

Viral posts on X (formerly known as Twitter) and Facebook claim that Hollywood actor Megan Fox deleted many of her X posts following American rapper Sean 'Diddy' Combs' arrest on charges of sex trafficking, racketeering, and sexual assault. These posts insinuate that Fox was involved, as rumors suggest several high-profile celebrities were implicated in Combs' activities.

One viral X post states: "Just in: Actor Megan Fox has cleared her X account. She has left only 29 posts from before 2013. She has unfollowed everyone. She has joined Usher and Pink in deleting content from their X accounts following Diddy’s arrest."

This post was also screenshotted and shared on Facebook. Archive links to the posts can be found hereherehere, and here.

However, we found that Fox publicly announced she had deleted her X account after using it for a week in January 2013. This was covered by news reports at the time. She has expressed her dislike for social media and has deleted accounts on other platforms since then.

What did we find?

A keyword search revealed several reports from January 11, 2013, stating that Fox had quit the platform after joining on January 3 of that year. The reports quoted a post from her now-deleted Facebook account, in which she stated that her "Twitter account has been shut down" and expressed her desire to try social media but admitted she "still hates it." An archived link to this Facebook post, dated January 10, can be found here.

In her last X post (archived here) on January 9, 2013, Fox wrote that she did not understand the platform's point.

Using the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine, we checked archives of her X page from 2014, 2017, 2020, and 2023, which showed no further activity on the account after January 9, 2013.

Therefore, Fox has not deleted all but a few of her X posts from 2013 after Combs' arrest; she had only used the platform for a week before deciding to quit in January 2013.

We also found reports that she wiped her Instagram of all photos and unfollowed everyone on May 16, 2024. The reports noted that Fox had previously deactivated her account entirely in February 2023.

The other two celebrities mentioned in the claim, musicians Usher and Pink, faced similar allegations. Usher claimed that his account was hacked amid the scrutiny, while Pink posted on Instagram (archived here) clarifying that she deleted all her X posts in February, more than seven months before Combs' arrest. Reports from February confirm this.

Combs, who has pleaded not guilty to the charges, is currently held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, awaiting his criminal trial.

The verdict

Megan Fox quit using X (formerly Twitter) on January 9, 2013, a fact covered by the media at the time. Verification using the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine also confirmed that she had not made any tweets after that date, contrary to the claims in the viral posts.
