Kamala Harris made her first visit to the U.S.-Mexico border as the Vice President on June 25, 2021, to deal with immigration issues. In early June 2021, media outlets reported that politicians were criticizing Vice President Kamala Harris for not visiting Mexico after getting elected. According to the BBC, U.S. President Joe Biden entrusted Harris in March with tackling immigration. She traveled to Guatemala and Mexico this month, where she urged potential migrants not to travel to the United States. However, the vice president had previously dodged queries on whether she should travel to the U.S.-Mexico border, describing such a trip as a "grand gesture." On June 25, 2021, Vice President Kamal Harris visited the southern border in El Paso, Texas. She addressed the issues of migration in her visit to Guatemala and Mexico. In her speech, she pointed out that it was in El Paso that the previous administration implemented the "Return to Mexico" policy, and this is where she would like to start making changes. From corruption to women's welfare, Harris said she wants to focus on root causes and solve these problems. Her speech is available on the White House website.
