The majority of those already vaccinated are health workers and frontline workers. On February 7, 2021, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare released a report in the Press Information Bureau (PIB) that shows that India has become the third topmost country in the world, in terms of the number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered. However, if you look at the number of doses administered per 100 people, you will see that India has only vaccinated 0.8 percent of its population. This is far behind other countries with smaller populations: for instance, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, the U.K., and the U.S. have all vaccinated a higher proportion of their populations.
