Trans inmates have not impregnated their fellow inmates. This claim is transphobic and promotes online misinformation against transgender people.Kellie-Jay Keen-Minshull, a British anti-trans activist who goes by the name of Posie Parker, has made an unfounded claim regarding transgender women in the U.S. While speaking to the hosts of a YouTube show called Triggernometry, Parker falsely claims that women in Californian prisons are "impregnated" by "other women." Although she doesn't use the words "trans women," she pauses to sarcastically identify them as women. She also sometimes refers to trans women as men. For instance, she states that women are not allowed to know when there's a "man coming into their prison cell." The video clip uploaded on Facebook has over 100K views in the last 24 hours. Parker provides no proof to back her claim because such a piece of evidence doesn't exist. After a similar claim made the rounds on Facebook in August 2021, PolitiFact spoke to Terry Thornton, who works at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Thorton clarified that the only pregnant incarcerated women in CDCR custody were pregnant on arrival to the state prison. In short, no woman became pregnant while in the correctional facility. In September 2020, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a law that allowed transgender inmates to be housed in prison based on their gender identity. The bill came into effect in January 2021. Parker has a history of making transphobic comments. In 2019, she harassed and misgendered Sarah McBride, the first openly transgender person elected to the Delaware state senate in the U.S. As Parker heckled McBride, she livestreamed the video on Facebook. Parker and her associate, Julia Long, accused McBride of "championing the rights of men to access women in women's prison," according to NBC news.
