After the recent mass shootings at a Buffalo supermarket and Robb Elementary School, Texas, many false and misleading posts have gone viral on social media. One viral post from Twitter account @thakidfrombk on May 29, 2022, carries the caption, "mg I think someone was shooting at Barclay's just now. Huge stampede near the exit." The video depicts people running in fear at the Barclays Center in New York. However, this is false. There were loud sounds heard at the Barclays Center, but New York Police rejected reports of a shooting.

In fact:

According to NBC News, on May 29, 2022, a loud noise or sound was heard while people were leaving the Barclays Center, an indoor arena, after watching a lightweight championship boxing match. People believed there was an active shooting in the area, which led to the stampede. Nearly ten people were injured in the stampede.

A New York Police Department spokesman told the Washington Post that it was a fake shooting report and that they were unsure what caused such a loud noise. Also, Ryan Songalia, a reporter for The Ring Magazine, tweeted that the shooting rumor turned out to be false.
