Fact-Check

The Verdict False

There is no causal link between COVID-19 vaccination and slow death.

There is no causal link between COVID-19 vaccination and slow death. There is no scientific evidence to show that vaccines cause death. In fact, current scientific research on COVID-19 vaccines demonstrates just the opposite i.e. vaccines are safe and can reduce COVID-19 related fatalities. The World Health Organization (WHO) advises that the COVID-19 vaccines produce protection against the disease, as a result of developing an immune response to the SARS-Cov-2 virus. Developing immunity through vaccination means there is a reduced risk of developing the illness and its consequences, which in severe cases includes death. WHO emphasises the importance of this immunity and how it helps one fight the virus if exposed. There are several vaccines in use across the world. WHO has listed the Pfizer/BioNTech, Astrazeneca-SK Bio, Serum Institute of India, Janssen, Moderna and Sinopharm vaccines for emergency use. The approved vaccines are not only efficacious in clinical settings but burgeoning research indicates that they also offer similar protection in real-world settings. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the USA advises that COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective. While it is well-known that COVID-19 vaccines have been produced at record speed, public health professionals agree that there exist many checks and balances to ensure their safety and efficacy. They agree that while one may experience certain side-effects after taking the vaccine- the most common side effects are temporary and not life threatening. Moreover, experts agree that the benefits of taking the vaccine severely outweigh the cons of getting a rare or adverse reaction to vaccination. After conducting an extensive review of reports of vaccination related side effects and deaths in many parts of the world, Germany’s international broadcaster, Deutsche Welle has found that in most cases health authorities have not found causal links between the vaccination and deaths. Since there is no clear evidence proving the causal link between COVID-19 vaccination and slow death, the current claim is false. The COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to a lot of potentially dangerous misinformation.
