An effective COVID-19 vaccine has not yet been developed and currently many vaccines are in different stages of clinical trials in the United States.According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there are 10 vaccines currently in human trials and 126 more in development. Dr. Anthony Fauci, the top infectious disease expert in the U.S., told CNN that phase 3 trials, which involve tens of thousands of people to measure whether the vaccines are safe and effective, would begin with Moderna Inc in July, an Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine in August, and one by Johnson & Johnson in September 2020. Moreover, a public-private partnership (PPP) named Operation Warp Speed has announced support to the production of 300 million COVID-19 vaccine doses for the U.S. by early 2021. The partnership was initiated by the U.S. federal government to facilitate and accelerate the development, manufacturing, and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines. Five pharmaceutical companies have been chosen to receive financial support from the government to develop the vaccine; AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson, Merck, Moderna, and Pfizer. The COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to a lot of potentially dangerous misinformation.
