The viral video dates back to 2020 and was clipped from a longer video to falsely portray Biden as endorsing Trump for the 2024 elections.
What is the claim?
A video circulating on social media features United States President Joe Biden allegedly endorsing former President Donald Trump for the 2024 presidential election. In the viral clip, Biden is heard saying, “...turn, turn this primary from a campaign that’s about negative attacks into one about what we’re for, because we cannot get re-elect, we cannot win this re-election. Excuse me, we can only re-elect Donald Trump…” This video has been widely shared on X (formerly Twitter), with users claiming that Biden has endorsed Trump for 2024.
One user wrote, “BREAKING NEWS! JOE BIDEN ENDORSES DONALD J TRUMP FOR 2024!” Archived versions of these posts can be accessed here, here, and here.

However, the claim is false. The video is an edited segment from Biden’s 2020 speech, misleadingly shared as an endorsement of Trump. In reality, Biden was emphasizing that Trump could be re-elected if Democrats engage in internal conflicts.
What did we find?
A reverse image search on keyframes from the viral clip revealed that it was taken from Biden’s speech in Kansas City before the Missouri primary during the 2020 presidential election. The original 22:10-minute video was live-streamed on Joe Biden's YouTube channel (archive here) on March 8, 2020. The viral clip was extracted from the 13:56 to 14:10-minute timeframe of the original speech.
At the 13:37-minute mark, Biden says, “If you want a nominee who is a Democrat, a lifelong Democrat, a proud Democrat, an Obama-Biden Democrat, join us. If you want a nominee who will bring this party together, who will run a progressive, positive campaign, and turn, turn this primary from a campaign that’s about negative attacks into one about what we’re for, because we cannot get re-elected, we cannot win this re-election…excuse me, and we can only re-elect Donald Trump if, in fact, we get engaged in this circular firing squad here — it’s got to be a positive campaign, so join us.”
The misrepresented statement was taken out of context to falsely portray Biden as endorsing Trump, whereas he was actually advocating for unity within the Democratic primaries.
FOX4 News Kansas City also live-streamed Biden’s speech on March 8, 2020, at the WWI Liberty Memorial in downtown Kansas City, confirming the authenticity of the video and speech sequence.
The verdict
The 2020 video was inaccurately shared as Joe Biden endorsing Donald Trump for the 2024 U.S. Presidential election. It lacked context, as Biden was addressing Trump's potential re-election in the context of infighting among the Democrats. Therefore, we have marked this claim as false.
