$147.5 million is not enough money to buy 1,000 averagely-priced properties.
$147.5 million is not enough money to buy 1,000 averagely-priced properties. Curbed, a real estate and urban design website, reports that Bill Gates lives in a "lavish" property in Medina, Washington. Curbed goes on to say that the estate — which Gates apparently calls Xanadu 2.0 and boasts its own Wikipedia page — overlooks Lake Washington in Medina and has 66,000 square footage. Curbed also reports that the total assessed value of the Medina estate was $147.5 million in 2009. The U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development jointly announced the new residential sales statistics for December 2020, reporting that the average sales price for a house was $394,900. These statistics were estimated from sample surveys. As the average sales house price is $394,900 ($394,900*1000 houses = 394,000,000) and Bill Gates house worth is $147.5 million we can conclude that the value of Gates' property alone is not enough money to buy 1,000 struggling U.S. families an averagely-priced home. That said, if Bill Gates' has increased in price a lot, then it might be worth 1,000 averagely-priced properties. It depends on where the property is located, and how big the family in question is.
