The U.S. Defense Department has announced that so far eight military service members have died due to the COVID-19, and 46,346 have been infected.Democratic Presidential candidate Joe Biden, while speaking at a campaign rally in Michigan on September 9, 2020, misquoted the COVID-19 fatalities of the State of Michigan to be that of the U.S military servicemen. Biden had said that the U.S military has 118,984 COVID-19 cases and that 6,114 servicemen had succumbed to the virus. These were actually the number of cases and death statistics of the state of Michigan. The Army Reserve has identified Sgt. 1st Class Mike Markins, 48, as the most recent U.S. service member to die from COVID-19. Therefore, Markins is the 4th Army Reserve soldier and 8th service member to die as a result of the pandemic. As of now, the number of cases in the military is 46,346, and the number of combined deaths between military, civilian, dependent, and contractor Department of Defense employees is 97. The COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to a lot of potentially dangerous misinformation.
