False: Andrew Tate may have lung cancer.

Fact-Check

The Verdict False

Tate has refuted the claims on Twitter and said that he doesn't have cancer.

Context

Controversial influencer and rape-accused Andrew Tate was arrested by the Romanian Police last year in December under several charges, including human trafficking. The former professional kickboxer, who was arrested with his brother Tristan, is expected to remain in police custody until at least March 29 after his appeal against a 30-day of his detention was denied by a local court in late February. Since then, followers of the anti-women social media celebrity have been demanding his release, claiming online that the 36-year-old may have lung cancer. Even the website Joe.co.uk, which is part of a "social media lifestyle network," published an article on its website titled, "Andrew Tate has suspected lung cancer.” The network also shared the article on its official Facebook page with the caption: "His doctors are asking that he is released from prison so he can receive treatment." The post has gained significant traction on the social media platform and has been viewed over 1,100 times. Twitter user Sulaiman Ahmed (@ShaykhSulaiman), who claims to be a journalist, even shared a purported medical report with the claim that Tate may have lung cancer, which has possibly reached a stage where a "6-month delay could be fatal."

In Fact

Tate, whose Twitter account has remained active despite the influencer being in police custody, has shut down these speculations. In a tweet post on March 5, Tate refuted rumors about his ill health and clarified that he doesn't have cancer. In the post, where he also made some hyperbolic claims about his body, he wrote: "I do not have cancer. My lungs contain precisely 0 smoking damage. In fact, I have an 8L lung capacity and the vital signs of an Olympic athlete. There is nothing but a scar on my lung from an old battle. True warriors are scarred both inside and out." Tate had also shared a photo of himself posing in front of a mirror with gym equipment around.

According to a report by ABC News, rumors about Tate's cancer seem to have spread online after one of his alleged inner aides made an unsubstantiated claim on Instagram. A person whose Instagram account name is The Sartorial Shooter wrote a post saying, " Ok a lot of people are asking me if Tate lung cancer story is true. Yes it's true, I was the one driving with him to and from the hospital in Dubai. I don't have anymore specifics to share." However, the Instagram user later clarified in another post that Tate does not have cancer. According to a video report by the UK-based YouTube channel BSN, The Sartorial Shooter, whom the channel identifies as Tate's manager, had uploaded an Instagram story that stated, "Good news team. Romanian news saying Tate actually did have the biopsy that Dubai specialists recommended. It was done a month ago in Bucharest- report says tumor is benign. Be really nice if this was leaked earlier. Family and friends were extremely concerned. Romania wouldn't lie about this. So he's ok.” It is important to note that no credible sources have confirmed that the above-mentioned Instagram user is indeed Tate's manager.

The Verdict

Claims about Andrew Tate being diagnosed with cancer originate from unconfirmed sources. The influencer has clarified that he does not have lung cancer. Therefore, we mark this claim false.
