The footage was edited to slow down her speech. We have marked this claim as misleading.
The claim
A clip of the U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris talking about being a "joyful warrior" is being shared online with an insinuation that she is confused.
The video opens with Harris saying, “Never let anyone take your joy from you. I call myself a joyful warrior, right? Never let anyone take your joy from you. You do what you got to do. And isn’t that a wonderful way to live? To know you have purpose.”
It then cuts back to different parts of the above sentences. The video was shared on TikTok and Facebook carrying a description that reads, in part, “No… just no!” Comments beneath the TikTok iteration include “yammered” and “she’s definitely on something.”
However, the video has been edited to slow down Harris’ speech.
In fact
The original video is cut from a livestream uploaded to the White House's official YouTube account in November 2022, in which Harris was in discussion with U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines MaryKay Carlson.
The real clip (timestamp: 20:48) featuring the previously described sentences is 24 seconds long, while the slowed-down version in the video shared online is 30 seconds.
Logically Facts addressed another doctored video, taken from a rally in Atlanta in September, where Harris’ speech was slowed down to make it appear like she was slurring.
The verdict
The footage has been edited to slow down her speech. Therefore, this claim is misleading.
